New to BMX racing in the UK? One thing you will need is a BMX race plate for the front of your bike. And for regional and national racing you’ll also need a side plate for your frame. If you’re looking for your first race plate then read on to make sure you get the right colour combination for BMX racing in the UK. Better to get it right first time or you’ll need a new plate when you advance from club to regional to national level racing.
UK BMX race plate and background colours follow the British Cycling guidelines and are categorised by challenge and championship classes.
Challenge Classes (Regional and National Events)
Male / Open (20″): Yellow background with black numbers
Female / Girls (20″): Blue background with white numbers
Cruiser (Male & Female): Red background with white numbers
Championship Classes (Nationals)
Elite (Male & Female): White background with black numbers
Junior (Male & Female): Black background with white numbers

If you are new to BMX racing your first race number will be the last 3 digits of your British Cycling membership number.
For local club or novice racing, clubs will often accept a plain white background with black numbers, or even a paper plate with a sharpie number!
