Seats

In BMX racing, the seat serves a very different purpose than it does on a standard bike. Because racers spend the race standing up to maximise power and manoeuvrability, the seat acts as a lightweight point of stability and a safety feature. It is only used for sitting when waiting in the pens or on an extended post for warm ups and cool downs.

The design of a racing seat focuses on three main factors:

• Weight: Since racing is won or lost in fractions of a second, most seats are extremely minimalist. Many riders opt for "integrated" or "pivotal" systems that strip away heavy metal rails and extra padding to save as much weight as possible.

• Low Profile: A racing seat is typically slammed low toward the frame. This ensures it stays out of the rider's way during jumps, manualing, and aggressive cornering, providing maximum "room" to move the bike underneath the body.

• Durability: Despite being light, these seats are built to withstand the impact of a crash. Materials like high-density plastic or carbon fiber are common, often paired with a slim layer of foam for the rare moments a rider sits down between motos.
